The South Ayrshire Conservative and Unionist Association is a regional branch of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party and we are a key and active part of the British Conservative movement.
Our association serves the people of South Ayrshire; Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Maybole, Girvan, Barrhill, Ballantrae, Dunure, Maidens, Turnberry, Pinwherry, Pinmore, Kirkmichael, Crosshill, Straiton, Dailly, Dalrymple, Coylton, Annbank, Mossblown, Tarbolton, Monkton, Dundonald and all of the rural and farming communities in the vicinity.
We are an active association and when we aren't campaigning during an election period we are working hard to retain Scotland's equal and proud place as a member of the United Kingdom.
So far in Government, Conservatives have shown that we are the only party that stands up for working people and those who aspire to better themselves and others around them. We have cut Labour's deficit by half, taken over 2 million people out of income tax, have the most people in work in our history and capped immigration and welfare; to name but a few.
Our MSP's in Holyrood have shown that Conservatives can make a difference in Scotland. We forced the SNP Government to create a Town Centre Regeneration Fund and to increase apprenticeships for young people in the 2007-2011 parliament. In this current parliament we have forced the SNP to climb down on their unfair property tax hikes and on stop and search. Under our leader Ruth Davidson MSP we have seen more people join our party and we are carrying out the biggest policy review our party has ever seen.
In 2016, the number of Scottish Conservative MSPs increased to 31, with John Scott MSP holding his seat thanks to the work of local members. That election also saw Brian Whittle elected as a South of Scotland MSP. In 2017, the number of Conservative councillors in South Ayrshire increased from 10 to 12, with a gain in Ayr West and Girvan & South Carrick, ensuring the party remain the largest group in South Ayrshire Council. Later that year, the association worked hard to successfully to defeat the SNP and get Bill Grant elected as MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock, and nearly succeeded in gaining the Central Scotland seat from the SNP.
With the SNP pushing for another divisive independence referendum, and the Scottish Conservatives being the best placed party to stand up for the majority of Scots who back our place in the UK, this is the time to get involved in the party and your local Scottish Conservative and Unionist Association.
