Scottish Conservatives Launch Rural Manifesto

The Scottish Conservatives have launched an action plan for rural Scotland calling for more powers and more opportunities for all.The plan ranges from a call to accelerate the roll out of superfast broadband to increasing the number of affordable homes for families who can’t afford high rents.Scotland is already becoming one of the most centralised countries in the western world, the party warns today, with too much power concentrated in the M8 corridor.Today’s plan is focused on spreading power down into our towns and villages – giving communities the right to decide on windfarms in their area, and demanding a review of the Police Scotland set up.It also is aimed at delivering more opportunities for rural areas – supporting upgrades to transport infrastructure and a balanced package of land reform proposals.

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Candidate Welcomes Public Confidence in British Economy

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Conservative candidate Lee Lyons welcomed the recent polling in the constituency by Lord Ashcroft which showed a majority of constituents are confident about the state of the British economy. In the poll conducted between the 10th-19th February, 57% of respondents in the constituency were confident that the British economy will fare well over the next year for the country and 63% believed that the British economy will fare well over the next year for their own family.

Candidates Welcome Fall in Unemployment Benefit Claims Across Ayrshire

Local Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock and Central Ayrshire Conservative candidates Lee Lyons and Marc Hope have welcomed recent figures which showed the number of people claiming out-of-work benefit has fallen in both constituencies by about a quarter in the last year. A recent report produced by the House of Commons Library highlighted recent figures from  Office for National Statistics which showed that claims for Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) fell by 24% in Central Ayrshire and by 27.6% in Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock.

Marc Hope States Disappointment at Tesco Troon Closure

Local Central Ayrshire Conservative candidate Marc Hope has reacted with disappointment at the announcement by major retailer Tesco that they will be closing dozens of their stores across the country, including their Express store in Troon.

'Vow' Kept and New Powers Delivered for Scotland

Prime Minister David Cameron today presented draft legislation which will see an unprecedented rise in the powers of the Scottish Parliament following agreement by Scotlands five major political parties who participated in the Smith Commission. The paper set out 44 different clauses which will be presented to Holyrood. It was a historic agreement and the first time that there has been full consensus on the future of devolution.

Local Candidate Slams Scottish Government for Underspend Despite Cuts to Local Councils

Local Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Conservative candidate Lee Lyons has slammed the SNP-led Scottish Government for underspending on vital services to the tune of £444m despite massive cuts being forced upon South Ayrshire Council. Scottish Government annual accounts showed that the SNP under spent on their annual budget by £444m whilst the SNP simultaneously attack the UK Government for not giving Scotland enough money.

Lee Lyons Raises a Sack Full of Toys for Kids at Christmas

Local Conservative General Election candidate for the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock seat Lee Lyons said cheers to all the of his fellow foster carers who recently pulled together to raise hundreds of toys for underprivileged kids ahead of Christmas. After visiting the local Salvation Army Food Bank in Ayr, staff explained to Lee that they provide various different services to those most in need and also provide a variety of items for people - not just food.
